The California Supreme Court visits the Pottery Barn

Some of those who have been following the Propostion 8 drama may be puzzled as to why the California Supreme Court is reviewing the legitimacy of a Constitutional amendment or what grounds that may have to do so.

First, by taking this case now, the California Supreme Court avoids months or years of uncertainty as cases wend their way through the lower courts, since whatever they do, the matter is going to get appealed to the top anyway.

Also, since they created this mess, they need to clean it up (also known as the Pottery Barn rule).

And The Winner Is--Maureen Dowd!

OK, it’s official. Maureen Dowd is the worst New York Times op-ed columnist of the 2008 election year. Folks, that’s a big accomplishment because, as you all know, she had some pretty stiff competition from the likes of Frank Rich, Bob Herbert, and Nicholas Kristof. So, without further delay, please allow me to explain exactly what Maureen Dowd did to merit her award.

First of all Maureen Dowd wrote a column yesterday that was literally about how white people and black people are talking for the first time in DC, because Barack Obama won—and she even mentioned how she asked her black mailman if he was excited because of Obama’s victory (I’m not making this up). Now, I don’t know about Ms. Dowd and her friends, but I’ve been talking to African-Americans my entire life, and would have continued to do so with or without an Obama win.

Conservatism...Defined

Lately there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what a Conservative is and is not. Some seem to think it has to do with abortion or taxes or national security. Well the truth is that conservatism is not about any given issue, rather conservatism is about principles.

Before we go any further I believe it would behoove us to go over a bit of terminology that is thrown about too often without people understanding their meanings. the terms I am refering to are Issues, Policies, and Principles.

First let's deal with Issues.

An Issue, for the purpose of Politics, is something that is a cause of dispute. Issues come and go, some last longer than others, but all issues are fleeting in the long term. Some issues we deal with today are abortion, international terrorism and slowing or failing markets.

Next we have Policies.

Policies are the constructs that we create to deal with any given issue. Policies of today include the ESCR Ban, GWOT, and TARP.

Last but not least we have Principles.

Principles are what guide us in the formation of Policy on any given Issue. All political groups have their set of principles that guide them, but not all principles are equal.

As many conservatives already know, and the rest of the country is discovering, truth trumps tall tales -- sometimes. This little adage was borne out by MSNBC’s recent admission that they had been taken in by the Eisenstadt Hoax.

Barack Obama Becoming Clinton III

Tagged:

His campaign mantra was ,"change." He claimed for 20 months that he was going to shake up the Washington establishment and it would no longer be business as usual. He talked about removing the influence of Washington insiders and becoming the ultimate Washington outsider with his message of ,"hope and change."

Yet first candidate and now President Elect Barack Obama has shown that he favors the Washington insiders and has no intentions of bringing ,"change." First he selects the ultimate Washington insider to be his Vice President and now as he works on his transition into the White House making appointments and hiring staff, Obama is creating the third Clinton Administration.

Throughout the campaign Obama attacked John McCain being tied to President Bush and that if elected a McCain Administration would be nothing more that a third, "Bush term." So Obama is elected and what does he do ? He begins creating a third Clinton Administration. First he selects former Clinton Chief of Staff John Podesta as head of his transition team.

Making sure voters distinguish between Democrats and Republicans

Exit polls from Election Day 2008 showed that a majority of voters trusted democrats more than republicans to cut taxes, despite nearly all of world history.

There is no excuse for this or course, especially since Proposition 13 in California more than 25 years ago, but one thing I too often notice in conservative blogs is the failure of the author to identify the villainous democrat political actor as being member of the Democratic Party early in the story or not at all.

Gamecock never fails to do so. In fact, I consider identifying the Democratic Party as the morally and intellectually bankrupt party much more important than identifying the name of the particular Democrat.

Given the massive straight ticket voting for the jack-ass party two weeks ago, I hope this fact concentrates your minds.

Here is my most recent indictment, er ah…, I mean Examiner.com column that illustrates the point:

For all the Ted Stevens Haters: UPDATED

Tagged:

Looks like its over for Ted Stevens as Begich has widened his lead to over 2500 votes. There are still some to count and some military perhaps yet to come in, but a 2500 vote lead is probably insurmountable. So, one less thing for everyone to knock Alaska about and the first Democrat in a federal office since 1980. The Democrats should give the Public Integrity Section and the SAIC their "Person of the Century" award and one must wonder who George Bush thought was supposed to be running the USDOJ.

The recent election left the Republicans out in the cold. Some have recommended that the GOP chase the Democrats and their votes leftward across the political spectrum. Others believe we should return to the core principles of conservatism, and stand up for the issues which once defined us.
