Translating For The President

Tagged:

In a Rose Garden Press Conference this morning, President Bush announced that he will be sending Secretary of State Condi Rice to France to speak with French President Nicholas Sarkozy and then on to Georgia to speak with that country's president, Mikheil Saakashvili.

The president spoke of the ceasefire hammered out by Sarkozy between Russia and Georgia. He pointed out that while Russian Vladimir Putin stressed that it was not the intent of Russia to topple the Georgian government, that their actions did not match their words.

The president announced that the US Military would be carrying humanitarian aid to the people of Georgia by airlift, and that the US Navy would be standing by to provide additional aid as necessary. The president expressed hope that Russia would withdraw from Georgian territory and honor the ceasefire.

The president's words were meant to inform the American people, to allay fears on the world stage, and to make a point to the Russian leadership.

Please allow me to translate:

"Vlady, you remember when I said I had looked into your eyes and saw a man with whom we could do business? Well, I am hoping that when I was looking into your eyes, that you were looking back.

I would hope that what you saw was a man who does not suffer fools lightly. I hope you saw a man who says what he means and means what he says! The Georgians are our friends, and if anything, I am loyal to my friends.

You remember Saddam Hussein, don't you? When it became obvious that someone had to do something about the guy -- you know, when someone had to finally enforce those sixteen United Nations resolutions that you voted for -- I put out a call to all of our friends asking for volunteers to help.

Georgia stepped up and volunteered. So did a whole lot of other former Soviet satellite countries -- I guess they know a lot about despots, ya think? Anyhow, Georgia stepped up and joined the coalition.

As for Russia....well, I got the birthday card -- nice card by the way -- still waiting on the military support.

Well now, we are sending aid to the Georgian people. That aid will be delivered by the US Military. Beside humanitarian aid, you DO know what else those planes carry, right? I don't need to draw a map, right?

Now our Navy will be there to help out, as well. Vlad, MY Navy is bigger than YOUR navy, so don't F--- with me, you dig?

Anyhow, Condi will be coming over, and she will make it clear just what our position will be. Always nice to have a chance to talk with ya. We've gotta do lunch sometime -- why don't you have your people get with my people and we can set it up."
